Morsgail River offers easily accessible salmon and sea trout fishing from late June until October 15. The river below the main Loch lies besides the main drive and some fishermen like to motor to their favourite pools at daybreak before returning, hopefully triumphant, for breakfast. We also have two boats on the Morsgail Loch. A favourite spot for all fishermen is where the upper river enters the Loch as this is where salmon often lie. It is where many people get there first Morsgail salmon. The fish tend to weigh about 5lbs on average but in many years one of about 10lbs is caught. |
All Scottish fishing is dependent upon the rain and the Hebrides are no exception. The catch records largely mirror the weather. In 2005, George Goldsmith caught five salmon in one July morning. In 2007 the current owner and his son had eleven in three days fishing in August. Again, in 2007, a local fisherman had seven on October 15, the last day of the season. On the other hand, as every fisherman knows, a long dry period can spell frustration. However, even then the Loch and rivers hold fish; it just takes more skill to catch them.
We also have salmon and sea trout fishing at Loch Resort. While it is a long walk, for many it is their favourite place on the Estate. Here the river and estuary can provide wonderful sport and a true sense of wilderness. |
 |
There is also a boat on Loch Langavat where salmon can be plentiful.
Sea trout can be abundant, especially in August. They tend to be small, mostly under a pound, but always exciting and occasionally larger. |
Brown trout abound in the numerous lochs. They again are small but some are over a pound. Many fishermen like nothing more than to set off with their rod and lunch simply to explore the wilderness and waters, always wondering what the next loch might hold.
All our fishing is fly only, and we practice catch and return. |
 |
| We also organise sea fishing in our RIB, or off the rocks, when the River isn’t working. Try fly fishing for Pollock in the deep waters off the Hebridean coast. |
| A 10lb Pollock on light tackle provides great sport, as do the abundant mackerel and which are so delicious to cook on a beach or back at the Lodge |
